Behind The Times

If only last night's final installment was brimming with the happiness of this image...

Apologies to my East Coast Gaywood housemates that the video link up never happened. You boys already know how it pans out, we all did, compelled by morbid curiosity we lived through another forty minutes for some closure. Knowing I'd feel less than liberated afterwards I had this guy on hold...

Having slept on this I was pleased to be treated. I'm easily wowed by the scope of any contemporary animation, after the assault of This Is England 86 I eagerly immersed myself in it. Thoroughly recommended, a real joy. Tonight I'm looking forward to seeing another film I heard nothing but praise for which passed me by...

I find it frustrating knowing this is on the shelves but not in my ears...

It will fill them in a day or so, I'm excited about it. To offer some kind of skateboarding related content to this I'll cut what would be a rant short and tell you what's been bothering me. It's possible for me to get a board from Creature and Santa Cruz in 7.5"right now but not from Alien Workshop, Habitat, Krooked etc. My formula has been the same for years, I deviated from it at one point believing the hype and ran with an 8". One kickflip a hip meltdown later and I returned to square one. At this point in my skateboarding life I still have delusions that new flip tricks can be learnt and that isn't happening for me on a big board. It seems along the way I've become the weirdo. 7.5" board, 51mm wheels used to be standard. Check this out, I offered a kid with a busted piece of driftwood one of my old boards. He looked it over and said "nah I only ride 8's!" You are 11, you do not know yet what you ride! Don't allow some sheep mentality to dictate what you do ride and subsequently do yourself out of what would have been a new board and probably the equivalent of a 9" one taking into account your size 4 feet. Sheesh, I'm glad I got that out there. Flash forward ten years and my 7.5" board requirement may have changed, I'll be ready for that 8" and I won't be able to get one anywhere!

Exodus

The title of today's post is not referring to the soundtrack to Luigi's new student domicile. One huge slice of the London skate scene are either currently already in NY or on route there...

Have a good time boys-send us pictures. NY related is an amazing post from Mr Warnett about these guys...

Have a good look through it

Make sure you click through the links to see indulgent pictures of boosted Polo items like this...

It's the kind of thing I want my attention turned to when I open my computer on a Monday morning, hopefully there's some reading there for you this cold and increasingly dark Tuesday evening. My sticker job yesterday got me hyped, I'd forgotten about the sheet of dog stickers at my parents house...

Get Well Soon

Pizzer took a tumble at Stockwell today and bust up his hand. Pretty sure it's being pinned as I type. Here's to a speedy recovery and a day in his life 14 years ago I lifted off his blog...

Big In The Balkans

Wob and Carlos just returned from Croatia. He got up over there...

and the Alley got some coverage in the best possible way...

Those tote bags were very limited-say the word and i'll make another batch. They really add to any beauty...

It's another busy Saturday so I'm getting back to it. Here's a picture of my new neighbour...

If that hasen't made you need a Santa Cruz bobble hat I don't know what will. Pay us a visit

Dinner of Champions

I was living the Mobb Deep Trife Life last night. Ingested this culinary abortion...

In order to combat this all time low I visited a neglected hot spot on the way back from an errand. This guy is their mascot...

Bodeans! From the gutter to lunch time glamour in half a day. It takes those lows to enjoy the dizzy heights now and again.

Idiot box

Expecting to lol all over the place we went to see this the other day...

Every very funny moment made it into the trailer. What began as a likeable rom-com soon provoked the same discomfort I experienced watching The Cable Guy. Everyone I've spoken to that has seen it said similar things. Much excitement had built over the third installment of This Is England 86 and as I said yesterday it left everyone wanting a shower. It's agreed that the bike gang are the shining stars-"Engines Off!" Between them and these guys...

I'm developing a healthy interest in bikes and the open road. SAMCRO are a far more refined and organised outfit than the Sergio Tacchini clad morons hungry for a tear up but not as funny. In the humour stakes healthy injections are back on the cards as season six of this...

just started and episode one of the fourth season of this...

airs tonight-Hooray!

Living in a box

It's been a tough few days. I was hoping This Is England 86 would put me on a hype but after being thoroughly Shane Meadows'd I just needed a hug. We received a welcome box just now. The new price tags drawn by Rob...

I've noticed this sticker maker getting up...

Last night I enjoyed seeing this sign whilst out skating. It reminded me of the old Silas sticker signs saying things like "Behave" and "Don't even think about it"...

It would be a good name for a band. Before I go here's a picture of our delivery guy...

He knows what time it is

"Heel kick to diaphragm"

One film I enjoyed lately got bad press from the movie critics in the field I know, their reviews put it to the back of my to watch list. As a youth I would wander around my grandmother's house with my grandfather's pipe in my mouth and a deerstalker pretending to be this guy...

It flew by and I liked it. Some dialogue in there was completely to my taste. Doctor Watson says something along the lines of "Holmes come and you must wear a suit" Holmes' reply "You wear a suit" The great lunch debate is in full flow right now. One old go to and a favourite of mine and Gareth's was this monstrosity...

I remember Gareth saying "get me the one with the most meat and nothing else" For this reason whenever the debates ugly head rises my knee jerk reaction is to suggest what has affectionately come to be known as the desert burger. It has no redeeming features-dry,no salad, no sauce simply bacon cheese and beef in a sweaty bun. I'm not getting the XL Bacon double cheeseburger today, i'm celebrating it's memory.

"Outside of a dog...

...a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read"- Groucho Marx

My life was made better by hanging out with this guy the other night....

Yeah dogs!

Chicken one day, feather's the next

My favourite chicken outlet is getting heavily involved in events. They're backing these contests. Free chicken-I repeat free chicken...

These guys...

are celebrating 10 years of footwear love. This Sunday they are having a shindig...

Again-guess what? Free Nando's chicken! It's no secret I'm backing the do's. The wallpaper behind this post is their mascot Barci with an A.K because their product is killer. Still never seen a chicken cheque, I've heard about them, sound amazing. Last night it was so good to hang out with these guys again...

the first two episodes of Season 3 have definitely delivered, it's exciting stuff and it's going off. What was once a regular occurance is now a thing of folk-lore when it comes to visits from an ex Covent Garden stalwart...

The Baron! See you tomorrow

Saving graces

Apologies for being off the radar. Today's inactivity and late post are due to technical difficulties on Slam laptop rotation. Here are the things which have got me through the last 48 hours or so...

I told you to watch it a day ago but there's the poster. This was last night's entertainment...

and I've been reading this in the interim...

I'm looking forward to catching the second episode of this...

and from Charlie's review I'm very keen to catch this...

Sick note

Today's post will literally have to be a note from my bed, written on my phone. No computer is to hand and mine is in another area code. Some kind of fever has thrown a spanner in my works and my body and I aim to flush it out with vitamin C. This set back has meant some reclining time. My brother luckily provided me with Youth In Revolt to watch. Thoroughly recommended. There'd usually be an image where this text is. You're going to have to imagine it today. Watch Youth In Revolt and I'll see you tomorrow.

Congratulations

My photograph taking skills were somewhat impaired last night. I often find having a good time gets in the way and regret not maintaining the discipline of taking photographs the next day. Lucky for me the Charlie Young camera has some gems in it so I'll try and bring you them at a later date. Last night we celebrated Gareth and Alice getting married. These are all the photos I took last night. We reminisced in the Glasshouse beforehand and I thought this picture was apt...

We all arrived as dinner was finishing and got to see the cutting of the cake...

That's not your average cutting of the cake photo, it's taken prematurely. It's a pre cutting the cake photo with no cake cutting going on. Shortly after the two joined forces...

and enjoyed the first dance...

to Sonic Youth no less. It was good to see the two of them so happy and to have a riotous good time in suits. Expect more photos of revellers propelled by the Dan Henshaw mega mix soon. Congratulations Gareth and Alice and thanks for having us.

Propaganda

Like many others I was reeled in by this flyer...

Don't-Don't-Don't Believe The Hype! Looking at the flyer you'd be forgiven for believing there would be an underground tunnel, it would suggest that I think. It's like putting a picture of Neil Young on a gig poster and your main event being Blue. There were a couple of pictures of tunnels there and some art installations. This live act was amazing...

We saw the illuminated hula hoops shortly before we were asked to leave an hour and forty five minutes after we had begun queuing for a tunnel which didn't exist. Ignore the taglines secret labyrinth and explore-Replace with walk around a basement. I'm just bitter I didn't get what it said on the tin, I would have enjoyed it more otherwise, arriving without the excitement and expectation I'd built up. There was entertaining stuff to look at performance wise. I'll tell you about the Phosphorescent gig tomorrow-that was really good.

Here's to taking it easy

I'd like to begin this post with a dual purpose photo...

This is to remind you to pick up issue 2 of Grey magazine and to big up Hoppy for my new lights. Visibility is no longer a problem for me and the mule. Tonight i'm going to see Phosphorescent with my dad. You may like them. These two tracks off the new album will let you know pretty quick if you do or not. Even if they don't I recommend the album previous, the title of which is To Willie. Willie Nelson covers-good stuff. Have a listen...

If you're in the market for a new board and today's inclement weather hasn't made you give up on ever rolling again we have good news for you. Each of the three new series' from these guys...

Should be on the wall for the Weekend

Tuesday, 7 September 2010

"You have learned something..

That always feels at first as if you had lost something." Another H. G. Wells quote there. Yesterday you learnt he was born in the Motherland. Shortly after that post I pilgrimaged to where a huge mural in his honour once stood. Yesterday I found it to be replace by one celebrating Darwin...

Notice the Bromley town pump in the foreground. It pleased me however to see the tripods still running things further down the high street...

Not forgetting the man's life...

Hometown hero worship over. Charlie, Lev, Toddy and Wob played at Wembley on Saturday...

Nothing special. I told you I'd fill you in about a special meal in Berlin. Photos are on my computer at home so I'll tell you instead about a fantastic burger. One for the Wilson...

I got it here...
