Music nerd stuff

When there's not a lot else going on bar skateboarding, the Wire, Lost etc there is usually some kind of music nerd activity. Robbo coined this phrase in reference to my hobbyism. What have I got for you today? Not too long ago I spoke about us seeing Laura Marling play. Her boy Johnny Flynn had a good album out last year..

This was one of Charlies favourites and consequently one of Neil Barons least favourite. This album I like a lot and it often gets a play out. Here's a taste and a video for you..

We're going to see him play later on this evening. Henry got me a sick book for my birthday following up my new late night Wire routine..

I'm hoping for a decent length holiday this year to give this the deserved attention. One post past mentioned me going to see Justin Townes Earle with my father. His last album "the good life" has grown on me a lot since that gig. My dad picked up the new one yesterday..

I'm already enjoying it rattling around in my pod. We had a good steak dinner the other night as an early celebration of the Wilsons birthday. The actual date is today so..

Hopefully he's out there on the streets enjoying Kates itinerary as I type. That's it for today. We only got 50% of our Luigi fix this weekend past. He was under the weather with a cold on Sunday. We all felt really sorry for him until our super sleuth skills found this picture on Facebook..

Night fishing will do it to you.

"The sky is burnin'..

..I believe my soul's on fire" A Laidlow tip off inspired the purchase of the Burnin' Sky album. Toddy and Seth inspired the purchase of the first two albums. This week past has been soundtracked in my house by these three...

New old music is the best. Discovering something for the first time that has sat there in existence since you were born fills me with hope every time.

Let the Wild Rumpus Begin

We're all waiting for it. The more I read about it and hear about it the more I want to see it..

In conjunction with the film and Spike Jonze the best Lakai shoe has a film tie in colourway..

You can get yourself a pair here..

http://www.slamcity.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=21_66&products_id=1551

Curiouser and curiouser. I was already sold on seeing this. Two things have made me even more keen. I found out that Dave Eggers the author of this..

wrote the screenplay along with Spike Jonze. I enjoyed this book a lot. The second thing which caught my attention was that your favourite Mafia boss and mine..

..Tony Soprano played by James Gandolfini is the voice of the character Carol. It just gets better and better. The Jakes Alley games of skate got back under way this afternoon. Round Two! Vaughan took on our host..

This was a great game to get the ball rolling again. Lev got to host himself playing. Nick concocted a challenge for himself and Jin..

They were evenly matched..

Jin had a serious power up prior to this which may have given him an advantage..

I think Nicks determination may have matched his blackcurrant fuelled opponent..

Never one for the constraints of a board series Nick sought outside help. It seems that Fran his girlfriend will be knocking out limited edition one of one boards for him..

Maybe one of these will be mass produced in the future and you'll be able to get your hands on one.

“Publicity can be terrible. But only if you don't have any.”

-Jane Russel

There's been a good level of publicity here of late and it has been good press we have received. Coverage appeared on the site run by our friends in Barcelona so a thanks goes out to these guys..

The images which came from the Alley cam look pretty good together, I was pleasantly surprised. If you are yet to visit the Nike SB pop up store take a virtual gander here..

“I'll beat him so bad he'll need a shoehorn to put his hat on.”

Muhammad Ali said that a long time ago. He couldn't have said that today with the availability of the new Jake's Alley snap back. The swollen head would just mean a re-adjustment of the poppers at the back. The boxes stoked me out..

Here's the view from the front..

and the view from the back..

The eyelets at the top look sick..

The Slam detail is the same as on the Felted..

Here's one of the lining..

This flick gives you a good view of the old upside down peak, back from the vaults. We have good stock of these for you this weekend. They're £29.95

Thank Crunchie

I'm looking forward to an all you can eat steak dinner with Mr Wilson tonight. He is by far my favourite person to eat with and I have front row seats! Just kidding Matt, it's going to be an Asterix and Obelix affair I can tell. What's new in here? You may have gathered there's new SB product through the door. One of the surprise highlights is the dunk based on this board..

We have a size break so hurry if you missed out on round one. The likeness is spot on..

I linked you up to Chris Pulmans new blog recently. Knowing the kind of thing I'm psyched on he turned my attention to his favourite word space on the net right now, apart from the Alley of course. It is called Boil The Ocean and has a clip of this guy..

It has a nice sequence of him from Tampa just gone. Have a look for yourself..

http://boiltheocean.wordpress.com/2009/03/26/suspect-chin-music/

Always interesting. If you still want more..

Cheers for the input Pizzer, it's definitely angled todays post. Chris' blog will appear just after this post in the extended family section to your right. As will the new web space owned by Robbo. Here's an example of his work..

Yes Michael J Fox! Expect more polaroid activity as he scans it. Stay updated here..

One more Cuban Link for you before I go. Our friend John AKA The Nolan worked really hard on the coming Spike Jonze film Where The Wild Things Are. It's going to be amazing!..

Double dip

Actually had a dream with sherbet dib dabs in it last night, late night supermarket issues. I'm doing a news double dip because it's pertinent to the Alley and our new Nike blog. The good people at NikeSBorg interviewed me for their blog. There's a little bit of our illustrious history in there. Have a read here..

The plan later?

Boom box! Boom box!

That Kalis section is banging! A pleasure to watch every time it rolls round on the Alien dvd which is on rotation downstairs. One of Dan's pet hates is a grip tape assistant. It's often hard and quite off putting when a customer, young or old is looking over or under your shoulder as you grip their board. It's usually assistance such as this that causes mistakes to be made. We have employed a grip tape assistant of a different nature of late. Everyone has their own technique when it comes to taping a board. If yours involves sanding some of that sheen off the top ply before laying down the tape then let me introduce you to Stella..

Crocodile, crocodile.

Many hands

My folks were called out to my Grandmothers house earlier this evening. The heater had apparently given up the ghost. One twenty minute drive later and they soon got to the root of the problem, that pesky switch next to the plug had been pressed. This reminded me of a story.
Pizzer was hired a long time back now to tackle the many problems building in the Slam store. He went from moving to London and a vacancy at the warehouse to managing the shop in a very short period of time. One of the problems he saw which needed addressing instantly was storage. Cardboard boxes full of shoes and clothes needed housing and ideally off the shop floor. Shelving was tweaked and space made but still after all the consolidating possible he found himself in the middle of a storage crisis. It was at this point, the end of his tether that he asked in desperation.."Surely there must be somewhere we can put this stuff..is there no space available downstairs?" Some thought went down and then "Well there is a cupboard" "Why didn't you mention this before? How come you haven't been using it all this time?" "We would have but there's no light down there"
Pizzer did some investigative work after this tip off. The cupboard space he found in the basement of Rough Trade was just perfect for housing the accumulated debris upstairs and the imminent drop of new shoes. It was almost like it was tailor made. The only down side to this was that the void which greeted him was as reported in absolute darkness. It took Pizzer a torch and a new lightbulb to furnish us with the storage cupboard that served us well until a couple of years ago.

Problem solving like this is alive and well in here, did I tell you about the time the PDQ machine broke and we fixed it with a fuse from Hoppy's kettle? I don't think I did.

Giggidy Giggidy Giggidy!

funny animated gif

This guy..

has taken time out of his busy schedule at the Drunken Clam to pose for a shoe. The shoe is in..

But it won't be for long so hurry if you're after a pair. These are available in store only as are this release which you may have forgotten about..

The Nike SB X Brooklyn projects dunk low went on sale the day our SB store opened. These are still available in store only but we have some left so give us a call.

Barren

Here's the Jake's Alley game of skate highlights from today..

Nothing went down out there this afternoon. Picking food from this attractive menu was my first error today..

I opted for the chicken burger but thay had run out so I asked for six wings and finished four because I started to feel unwell. I think that was around the time Luigi told me that the kitchen looked like something out of the film Saw. Henry asked for a couple of patty's. Unfortunately the lady dropped the second and last one on the floor leaving Henry with half a lunch. We live and learn. We had a good surprise visit from the Pizzers. Jacob gave Baron's head a chew..

and had a fine old time playing with skateboards and wheels..

He showed us his new walking skills too. We've missed our Pizzer interactions. If you have too you can keep up to speed with his movements here..

Heaven and hell

Some excitement has surrounded our most recent Nike SB. Volume three of the custom series is this..

Dubbed the Angel & Devil it features artwork on the insole which has been used on a tee..

This is Daryl Angel's design. The shoe features a black and baltic blue finish on a high grain leather. Red stitching lies behind the swoosh. Here's a better view..

We have good sizes for now but it'll be a busy weekend so if you're keen to get a pair of these hit us up now. We got an array of alternative bearings for you from Power for the weekend. The Consolidated packaging got the thumbs up from Rob who since playing Shier has a double flip in his arsenal..

One more episode and a new case begins..

I love lagging on something and then having a whole series to take down at my leisure. March is full of birthdays. Tonight we celebrate..

Three-hundred and sixty degrees of perfected styles

Clan in the front! Nugget spent maybe as long wiring the elusive backside three sixty ollie as I did having that first Wu joint on repeat as a youth. Rob captured him giving a how to on his favourite trick. Strictly speaking this should be edited so it cuts after the second try on the discarded driftwood tru-toys piece that's been lurking by the bin. Rob however left that camera rolling capturing some model posturing and I have no editing application at my disposal. Sorry Nugget..

My favourite part is where he nearly walks into our dvd display. There's about eight extra clips after this. Out of kindness I think this is your lot.

“Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!"”

Robin Williams said that. He also said..“When you look at Prince Charles, don't you think that someone in the Royal family knew someone in the Royal family?” Robin Williams is a funny man. He's bang on about Spring though, it makes you itchy to get out there amongst it. Rob's enjoying one of the first skate breaks of the year. We here are ready to equip you as Spring escorts us into Summer. I figured I'd give you a seasonal guide through our stock. It's around this time of year I always think chino's are a good idea. We have that Dickies work wear in here for you in tan, chocolate and black..

At just £39.95 a trouser piece experiment this Summer needn't be so much of a wrench either. New trousers may require a footwear re-up. These two Nike SB's are in the spirit of things..

Now the bottom half of your body is in line you better check beneath your feet..

These have been flying out of the door. I think my next board will be the white and tiffany (I think we're alone now) one. Now we need to address your upper body, first port of call is a Slam tee. New colours..

Everyone's favourite T shirt brand has a full range back in here. Toby Shuall's Suburban Bliss on the regular..

Come and give the range a once over. New We product hit the rails today, all of it ready for the Summer..

This short sleeve, polo and jacket will be live on the site tomorrow morning. Jackson has it ready to go, consider this a sneak peek. They have also brought us new tees..

The store is full of colour and nature's telling us to party. I'm sure that phonetic We graphic on the right won't stop the frequency of Wesk requests in here. Has Rough Trade moved?
